First Grade Found Me’s linky party goes along great with our recent Valentine’s Day post as the holiday draws near. We each picked out a favorite Valentine’s read aloud book today!
Sarah loves this one: Slugs in Love by Susan Pearson
This year Slugs in Love will fit perfectly into our reading lessons as we start to read across genres. I plan on using lots of poetry during this unit and compare poems to story books. Slugs in Love has many rhyming poems written between the two slugs “in love.” Also, the illustrator, Kevin O’Malley, was just visiting our school. I know the kiddos will go wild when they see his name!
Tamra loves this one: The Day It Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond
From favorite author, Felicia Bond, who has written all the If you Give… books, this special Valentine story features a main character who is very thoughtful in planning just the right Valentine’s for her friends. Through her actions, she acknowledges that all of her friends are unique. It’s a great way to express kindness and turn Valentine’s Day into a “friendship day.”
