We are linking up with Collaboration Cuties for the Mentor Text Linky. This week the theme is Social Studies. We chose a Fall themed book, "The Legend of Spookly the Square Pumpkin." This book is very sweet. If you haven't read it before, it will be worth it, I promise! An Amazon description sums this book up perfectly!!! It's so important to teach self acceptance and tolerance every month of the year!
Spookley was different.
He was odd,
he was rare.
Spookley the pumpkin wasn't round-
A very unique pumpkin delivers a special message of tolerance and self-acceptance that's just right for Halloween...and every day of the year.
After reading this book, I have the students make their own "special pumpkin." I tell them they can make their pumpkin any shape they'd like. They usually turn out pretty cute...
We are planning to use our fall packet, Pumpkins, Apples, and Halloween Oh My! in the coming weeks. If you'd like free copy of one of the pumpkin activities, click here! In this activity the students will read or listen to a nonfiction passage and answer a few questions. Following this, they will look around the room for the pumpkin life cycle stages. At each stage there will be a little square picture of that stage for them to use to make a life cycle booklet. Enjoy!

Have a great Sunday!
