Five for Friday 10.4.13

It's Friday...It's Link Up Time!

Here's a peek at our week!

This week we have Daily 5 going in full swing!  We are most excited about the fact that we have been able to meet with groups!  This is one of our favorite things about teaching first grade.  This year we made our Daily 5 Anchor Charts a little different. We were pleased with how they turned out; we like the smaller size and simple language.  The pictures of students actively engaged during each D5 rotation serve as a great reminder of our expectations.
If you'd like a free copy of the D5 header cards that we used at the top of our Anchor Charts,

This week we got our apple projects finalized and ready to display:

We started our first official Science unit this week, Living Organisms, so we wanted to make sure our kiddos knew all about scientists!  We made these cute little "Mad Scientists," which the students loved as you can imagine and brainstormed all about scientists!

We have been busy working on Math Bags again!  This time we are making a 2nd grade version.  We've had great feedback from our 1st grade set and when a customer asked for the 2nd grade version, we got to work!  We stayed with the same approach for the 2nd grade Math Bags; centers that can be done independently (more than once if needed) while requiring very little teacher prep (no color printing!!! or changing centers every week!!!).  We have 3 out of 4 sets completed...almost done!  For more information on sets 1, 2, and 3, click below on the pictures!

A First Grade Buddies announcement!  Tamra and her husband are expecting their 2nd child in February.  They find out next Tuesday what the gender will be!  Their {almost} 3 year old is a little girl.  Will she have a baby brother or a baby sister???  Make a guess in the comment section! Leave your name and email address so we can email you a prize if you're correct!

Have a GREAT weekend!

  1. Congratulations! My guess is a boy.

  2. I love how you simplified the Daily 5 language! Those scientists are ADORABLE! Yay for a baby!! I think it'll be....a girl :) I can't wait to find out!

  3. Love your expectations posters...the kids will be so excited to see themselves featured that they will feel more responsible for following the guidelines! (And of course, you can always say, "I am looking for groups to take photos of...")

Congrats on baby #2. I will go with Beau.
