TGIF!!!! Here's a peek at our week:
We had Literacy Night at our school this week. This is an opportunity for families to come to shop at the Book Fair, as well as, visit classrooms for literacy activities. It is also pajamas so kids come to school looking very cozy! The first grade theme was Curious George. We had plenty of Curious George books out for families to read together, as well as, many CG related activities. It was a success!
We have Guided Reading groups underway! This is such a great feeling. We are including written responses into our reading groups more than ever before! Our new Running Records now require written responses vs. oral responses so we knew our kiddos would need LOTS of practice with this! Both of us kept seeing on Pinterest that you can take composition books to Home Depot or Lowes and they would cut them in 1/2. Well....we tried and they both said no! So, a good ole' saw did the trick. We feel like journals cut this way are great; so much less wasted paper!
Our current reading unit is "Tackling the Tricky Parts." As a part of this unit, we discuss "Good Fit Books." We found this great freebie this summer from A Year of Many Firsts. Our kiddos really enjoyed matching the type of shoes with the activity you would wear them.
We also demonstrated Good Fit Books with shoes from my house; showing how important shoes that fit are like books that fit!
Last Friday we shared that I was going to find out the gender of my 2nd child this Tuesday. On Tuesday morning, I had my kiddos vote to see if they thought baby Dunstan was going to be a boy or a girl. Boy won the vote, but it's a girl! I told my class on Wednesday morning that after lunch they'd either have pink cookies or blue cookies to reveal the gender. They were pretty excited to see pink!
We couldn't believe when we saw this earlier this week on TPT!!!
It definitely made our Monday better! :)
Have a SUPER weekend!
