Mentor Text {11.10.13}

Good Morning!  We are linking up with Collaboration Cuties for their Mentor Text Linky.  This week the theme is math.  We have started our place value unit this past week so we chose to share a book that is great for base ten. A Place for Zero is a cute story about the character "Zero" who feels that the numbers 1-9 are so much luckier than himself.  He doesn't quite understand his place in the world so he goes on a journey trying to figure it all out.  This book talks about many math related concepts, but what we like about it for place value purposes is that it discusses numbers as digits.

We have added a Place Value packet to our store because we never felt like we had enough hands on activities to keep our kiddos engaged during our base ten unit.  This packet contains 5 activities that can be used in a small group, whole group, or independent work setting.  They would also work great for centers.  This packet is on sale for less than $2 this weekend due to our Veteran's Day Sale!

If you're also working on Place Value, click here for a fun freebie!

Have a super Sunday!

  1. How cute! I've never seen this book! Place value and number sense are the foundation of math so anything that helps students "get it" like this book is awesome!

    Thanks for linking up!

  2. I love this book. I use it at the beginning of the year with my 4th graders. It helps remind them of what they already know when it comes to place value. Thanks for sharing how you use it.

    1. Neat to hear that you use it too; even with your older kids!
