Mentor Text and Currently 12.1.13

It's December!  Can you believe that?!?
Today we are linking up with Collaboration Cuties for their Mentor Text Linky.  This week the theme is Language Arts.  We chose one of our favorite winter / holiday books.  Our reading strategy focus for December is Mental Images and the book, Bear Stays Up for Christmas is a great one to use for this strategy.   Bear Stays Up for Christmas is a fun tale about a group of friends that want Bear to be awake for Christmas.  They do all types of things with him to keep him awake; find a tree, wrap presents, make special treats, etc.  The pictures are very clear and the topic is fun for the kiddos to listen to.  This book is not only about the holiday season but also friendship.

If you would like to use this book (or any other book) to teach Mental Images, grab our FREEBIE by clicking HERE.  This freebie includes 5 Mental Image activities for your kiddos to enjoy.

This freebie packet includes:
-Mental Image "think aloud" worksheet

  2. Love the Bear books, anytime I go to a classroom for observations, the children would read one. Also, listening to Christmas songs is another one of my favorite traditions! I cannot stop singing them!!
