Mentor Text {1.5.14}

Good Morning!  We hope your weekend has been a great one!  We headed back to school last Thursday but see that many of you go back tomorrow.  Enjoy your last day off!  We made it through our first day back and know you will too! We are linking up with Collaboration Cuties for the Mentor Text Linky.  This week the theme is Language Arts.  In January we will be focusing on the comprehension strategy, "Inferring."  Inferring is definitely one of our favorite strategies to work on.  One book we will use for this strategy is The Snowman.   This book has beautiful and detailed illustrations but no words.  It is about a boy that builds a snowman that later that night "comes alive."  They play together and go on an adventure.  The pictures are definitely captivating and the kiddos love trying to "read" the story without words.

You can find an animated version of this book (to music) on youtube.  We will be viewing it after looking through the book.

We created this inferring organizer to use for this book, but we kept in general so you can use it with other books if you'd like to.  For your free copy, click here.
