Mentor Text 4.20.14

Good Morning!  We are linking up with Collaboration Cuties for their Mentor Text Linky.  This week the theme is Social Studies.  One of the books that we enjoy reading during our map unit is The Scrambled States of America.

From Amazon.com:
At the first annual "states party," Virginia and Idaho hatch a plan to swap spots so each can see another part of the country. Before the party is over, all the states decide to switch places. In the beginning, every state is happy in its new location. But soon things start to go wrong. Will the states ever unscramble themselves and return to their proper places?

This book is a nice fit when we are in the middle of our Flat Stanley project.  Do you do Flat Stanley at your school?  Our kiddos sent their Flat Stanley's all over the country before Spring Break.  Each day they are excited to see if their Flat Stanley has come back.  Once we read the Flat Stanley letter and check out the pictures (and other fun things they send along), we hang the Flat Stanley in the hall with string attached to pinpoint the location it came from.  It's neat to see how many states are represented when all of the Flat Stanley's have come back!

Enjoy your week!
