Summer Throwback: Remembering Fun Times From Last School Year

This year we started to have a special Science Experiment every Friday.  The science kits we use as part of our curriculum are very outdated and do little to evoke excitement from the kiddos (or teachers), so this was a great way to boost practice of experimentation, exploration, and observation in the classroom.  Plus, they were SUPER fun and that always helps!  Here's a peek at a few projects that we really loved!

Gummy Bear Experiment

The kiddos LOVED this one...probably more so because we gave them the left over gummy bears, but it was fun to keep checking on how the gummy bears were changing through the day.  Click the pic above to find out more about this experiment on Pinterest.

Fizzy Rocks Experiment

This was a fun one to do in conjunction with our Pebbles, Sand, and Silt Unit.  The kiddos loved to find what was hiding in their "rock" and sorting out the goodies for recording.  Click the picture above to find out more about the experiment on Pinterest!

Rain Cloud Experiment
The kiddos loved seeing the food coloring seep through the shaving cream!  Click the pic for more information about the experiment on Pinterest, or you can read a blog post from Kristen of A Day in First Grade.  We used her recording sheet.

And finally, we tried out a few STEM experiments as well.  This one was fun to see how kiddos worked together in small groups.
