Four Square Fridays // Vol.9

Welcome to Four Square Fridays...Volume 9!
Each Friday we will post 4 quick things -- basically anything we want to share with you at the moment about teaching, TpT, family life, and more!

This week's 4 squares...

1 //  Magnifying Glass for Important Details
Some of my students were struggling to find the important details in a book (both text and illustrations).  I pulled out the magnifying glasses (link is a similar type) and had the kiddos use them to find important details in the pictures.  One specific lesson that was helpful was to have them use the magnifying glass to determine how the character was feeling - facial expressions, gestures, etc.  They thought it was pretty neat!

2 //  Exclamation Mark by A. Rosenthal
Amy Rosenthal books are some of my VERY favorite!  I hadn't read the book, Exclamation Mark, until my girls found it at the library this weekend.  It is about an exclamation mark that feels left  and different because of his unique look, compared to the period.  He realizes, however, that he can do neat things (like be used to say WOW!).  I plan to use Exclamation Mark and the activity below (click HERE to get  a free copy of the activity) during my opinion writing unit next year.

As a side note, the book Exclamation Mark reminds me of another Rosenthal favorite, Spoon.  We made a similar activity for the book Spoon and you can find that link HERE.

3 // Mini Bubbles!
I'll be sending these quick and easy End of Year bubble tags and bubbles with all my reading kiddos in the coming weeks!  These mini bubbles from Target are my favorite for this present.

4 // Moster Grammar for 1st Grade and 2nd Grade
We love Monster Grammar and so do our students!  Monster Grammar allows us to get to all of the Common Core grammar standards in a fun and easy way.   Each concept has an interactive game or sorting activity, as well as, several practice pages that can be used for small group, independent work, homework, morning work, etc.  We always struggled to get grammar into our lesson plans and it's nice to have a system now to ensure we teach all the concepts!  Both Monster Grammar packs will be HALF OFF through Tuesday!  Grab them for next year while they are discounted!

Have a great week!
