Love little crafty projects?! Velcro popsicle sticks are so fun and are a great addition in the classroom! You can use them for your shapes unit, for making alphabet letters, or for creative building!
You can buy primary colored popsicle sticks if you want to create Velcro popsicle sticks quickly. We were feeling crafty and had just dyed Easter eggs, so we had all of the materials out to make our own dyed popsicle sticks! We used this how to for dying our sticks. It's a 'recipe' for dying clothespins, but works just great for popsicle sticks too!
You'll need plain popsicle sticks, food coloring, vinegar, and hot water.
Each cup has 1 TBSP of vinegar, some food coloring, and hot water. The sticks go in to get colored! It took mine about 20 minutes to get a good color and then I flipped them to get the rest of the stick in the coloring. If you can't get to the craft store, you can find popsicle sticks HERE on Amazon. (affiliate link)
Here's the first batch of popsicle sticks we colored! We pulled up the tutorial for the popsicle sticks on Pinterest. It said to put Velcro dots on all sides of the sticks...one side has rough dots on each end of the stick and the other side has the soft furry dots on each side of the stick.
These Velcro dots are SO easy to use! They peel right off and stick tight to the popsicle sticks! We grabbed them on Amazon! You can find them HERE. (affiliate link) Amazon's deal on the Velcro dots is way better than the craft store!
Here's a close up of how the Velcro dots go on!
Time to get creating! My toddlers made shapes and letters. I added a middle Velcro dot on some of the sticks to help make the letters!
And here is a rocket ship! This was great because I could ask them how many of each shape they used to make it!
